Reaching the World

Patrick Johnstone, the author of Operation World, will be at Chelten Baptist Church on Saturday, April 21, for a visit to the Philadelphia area. Operation World, the authoritative 850 page prayer guide about the world and its unreached peoples has sold over 2.5 million copies and has been used by God to call many Christians to pray and to go.

The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Chelten Baptist Church at Dresher, PA, near the Fort Washington exit (339) of the PA Turnpike. It is open to all at no charge. Patrick will discuss our successes and failures in the 20th century and then present where our focus should be in the 21st century. We will also will have a panel of missions leaders to interact with Patrick. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for anyone passionate about reaching the world for Christ.

For more information, please call David Hall at WEC International at 215.646.2322 ext. 101 (web: wec-usa.org) or Chelten Baptist Church at 215.646.5557 (web: cheltenbaptist.org).

A Refuge in the Shelters

I had a great visit with Phil Beauford yesterday observing his Thursday ministry at two men's homeless shelters. He clearly has a warm relationship with the men and staff which comes from his obvious loving spirit, but also through faithfully coming for years. He opens his meeting with a prayer, then plays music. Usually Jennifer Maddox is with him and sings. When she is not there he plays gospel songs. He played a cd of Sam Cook singing spirituals and gospel in the 50's. Then he preaches (yesterday on the resurrection, but will return to going through the Gospel of John). He concludes by inviting anyone to come up for prayer requests. He and I split up listening to requests and praying individually for those who came up. (The last gentlemen who came up to me was a former Muslim who was converted to Christ by reading the Torah, which he had been encouraged as a Muslim to read.)

It was evident that many of the men in the homes were there because of addiction and refusal to work. But there are also Christian brothers who whether it be from circumstance or their failures are trying to get their lives straight and be faithful to God. Visits like those from Phil and Jennifer give them encouragement and accountability (Phil doesn't hold anything back!). Please pray for this Thursday ministry.

Special Days

Two Sundays to mark on your calendars that are significant for two pastoral staff:

May 20 is the date for Jonathan Olsen's ordination which will be at the morning services. He goes before the presbytery examination committee April 19 and then presbytery itself May 12.

June 3 is Aaron Messner's last Sunday. That evening will be his final sermon. We will be sure to have some kind of reception that day and will let you know.

Virus Warning

In case this may be happening to you, here is a warning which our staff received today. I've received the e-card twice already.

Dear Staff: This morning Dot has received several emails which appear to be e-cards from an unnamed friend. It’s tricky because if you click on the website link, it does take you to real e-card service. However, if you click the first link which supposedly takes you to your e-card, you are promptedto download and open an executable file. That is highly suspicious and by doing it this way, our virus filters our bypassed. So don’t open them!

Unveiling

The unveiling of the Boice Memorial Plaque has been moved to April 22. Plans are for a brief unveiling ceremony to follow the 11:00 service. The actual installation is still scheduled for this week, and you should see a curtain in front of it this week. The change of date allows everyone who is able from the Boice family to attend, which we think renders the occasion even more meaningful.
