PCRT 2008

PCRT has gotten off to another inspiring start. Last night, R. C. Sproul spoke on the Necessity of the Blood. He noted that the necessity is being questioned today because we do not know who God is nor do we understand who we are. He will be the preacher, by the way, Sunday morning.

GO-Man Olsen

The Phillies already have a prospect for the day Jimmy Rollins retires - Gabriel Olsen, the GO-Man.

Completed

Today is the first day I do not post another devotion on a proverb. Yesterday, I wrote the last of 613 devotions after 3 years. See link, A Proverb a Day on the right.

Pre-PCRT

Another PCRT begins today. Here is today's "Pre-PCRT" seminar:

The life of ministry is not a sprint but a marathon. Many begin, but far fewer end
well. The key is to persevere with joy in service to Christ and His people. Drawing from
his years of ministry experience and steeped in the writings of the Puritans, Dr. Joel
Beeke will lead us in considering this often neglected but essential element of Christian
ministry.

No Chance

"They've got nothing left. No chance."

Phil "I-know-hockey" Ryken's prediction about the Flyers' chances last night.

Talking Turkey

Roughly one year ago three Christians were violently murdered in Malatya, Turkey. Have things gotten any better for Christians since then? Forum 18, a Norwegian group that tracks religious freedom, has just released a thoughtful account of what the Turkish church is up against. You can read it here.

How to Minister in a Nursing Home

Special "how to" training for nursing home ministry has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 4, 1-3 pm in the Catacombs. The speaker is Ed Verbek, former chaplain from the Reformed Presbyterian retirement home in Pittsburgh. Everyone is welcome, including current volunteers in Tenth’s nursing home ministry. Contact Nick Batzig at nbatzig@gmail.com to confirm your attendance.

Lunch on PCRT Sunday

Why not extend your PCRT time and join us for the Global Outreach lunch? The gospel in all its glory is meant to be shared. Join us in Fellowship Hall to hear updates from our global partners. This week we’ll hear from Dr. Neil Thompson, Director of Overseas Missionary Fellowship (read his profile here) and from visiting partners from India.

Lunch will be served at 12:45 p.m. and is just $4 for an individual or $10 for a family.

PCRT Time

It's beginning to look a lot like PCRT season. Tables and books are filling Reception Hall. Ah... the smell of new books as boxes are opened!

Terri Taylor sent me this link to a cool Church History site for kids. I got all the questions about Jim Elliot correct!

Trap Shooting

"So, Mr. Bird, Mr. Clay Bird, do you feel lucky?"

"Pull!" BANG!

"Guess, you weren't so lucky today."

That was the fate of bird after bird fleeing from my deadly aim.

Actually, the "bird" is a little clay frisbee shot from a trap shooter. Marlin Buckley took me out to his club yesterday (Delaware Co. Field & Stream Assoc.) to give me a hand at trap shooting. It took a few birds flying to safety before I started to get the hang of it. Even graduated to shooting two at a time. I just hope I can control my reflexes if someone tosses a frisbee near me.
