Last Day of Xn Street Outreach!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your prayers! Today is our last day down at the Marian Anderson Rec Center, and we would appreciate your prayers for a strong ending to our time there! We will run the kids program and basketball camp, have a gospel message and dinner, and then finish our time with an Awards Ceremony for the kids. Esperanza is offering rapid HIV screenings this afternoon (3:30-5), and Tenth Healthcare Fellowship will be doing medical screenings from 3:30-5 and 6-8.

Please pray for good gospel conversations and that many people will enter into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Please pray for strength and good attitudes for our team and a continued spirit of unity.

And if you'd like to help with clean-up, we'd love to have your support for that as well (it will start around 6:30 or 7, following the Awards Ceremony)!

Thanks!
anne

Music Education Workshop

On Friday, August 14, the Children's Music Ministry at Tenth Church will present a day-long (8:45am-4:15pm) elementary music education workshop. Both new and experienced music teachers are cordially invited to attend. Additionally, those currently using their musical gifts with children in any capacity (as well as those who may desire to do so in the future) are welcome.

Sessions will touch on the Scriptural mandate for music-making, hymn instruction for children, music ed research and theory, early childhood/elementary instruction, beginning literacy, the healthy child singing voice, and classroom management. Practical ideas culled from the research and work of Drs. Edwin Gordon, John Feierabend and Lili Levinowitz will be presented. We will discuss our approach to the construction of both early childhood and elementary level music class units and lessons. In addition to these sessions, you will have the chance to discuss music education issues with your peers in an informal manner, something rarely afforded to those in the profession.

The cost for the day will be:
$30 for those not currently involved in the Children's Music Ministry program at Tenth
$20 for former teachers from our program
Free for returning Tenth music teachers/helpers.

Childcare is available. We are working to make this day as engaging, informative, encouraging and practical as possible so that you are prepared for the Fall semester. We hope you will be able to join us! Contact Missy Strong at momamissy@comcast.net for more information

All Hands on (Xn Street's Cleanup) Deck!

One last request for help: we will have a LOT to clean up tomorrow night, and several of our teens are leaving right after dinner to join the rest of Maranatha for their annual camping trip (a five hour drive away!).... SO, we really need people to help clean up! Please join us for dinner at 5:30 and then stay to help break down/clean up/bring stuff back to the church.

If you're able to help, please email me (adavies@tenth.org) to let me know.

Thanks!
anne

Tenth Healthcare Fellowship at Xn Street

The Tenth Healthcare Fellowship will be joining the outreach at Marian Anderson tonight, tomorrow, and Friday. Please pray for the following things—

Praise God for the 20 plus volunteers that will be coming from the Tenth healthcare fellowship group to help with medical outreach at Christian Street
Praise God for providing the donated medical equipment that we will use.
Pray that God would use our weak efforts to show the people of Xn street that we care and most of all, that He cares about them.
Pray that we would have opportunities to share the gospel with those whom we interact.
Pray that our hearts would be softened as well as those that we are ministering to - that we may all know God's love more deeply
Pray for unity and strength for our team, esp for Karen Fritz who suffers from chronic pain

Xn Street Outreach Update

Just wanted to send a quick update to all of you as we approach the half-way point of the Xn Street Outreach. Thanks so much for your prayers, and thank you to those of you who have been sending encouraging emails/texts/phone calls to assure us of your prayers. God has been hearing and answering them.

Some specific ways that God is answering prayer--
- the weather has been good. We held the kids' program inside yesterday, but we were able to use the outdoor basketball court and to have the message and the dinner outside.
- people are coming! Yesterday we had almost 25 kids in the kids' program and between 35-40 in the basketball program. We weren't able to get a full count for dinner, but we're guessing it was between 175 and 200.
- favor with the Marian Anderson staff. All the staff members have been extremely supportive, encouraging, and helpful.
- volunteers. Every afternoon and evening we've had many people come (mostly from Tenth, but some from other churches) to help with basketball, the kids program, food prep and serving, and mingling with our neighbors.
- provision of food, etc. Each day we've been surprised by more people than we'd expected bringing food and supplies that we needed; it's been really encouraging to have people participate in this way.

Please keep praying for--
- team unity, especially among the teens. Because the girls from CCA are working with the basketball program while the others are working on the kids' program, it's a bit challenging for them all to feel like they're working together on the same team.
- energy. We're putting in pretty long days, with a lot of work that requires a high level of energy throughout. We are very aware of our need for God's strength.
- more people to come. We still have more room in both the kids' program and the basketball camp. And we still have more food we can serve at dinner-- please pray that more people would come!
- salvation of souls. Although we're excited to be part of this "community outreach," our goal is not just to create goodwill in the neighborhood. Please pray that people would hear and believe the gospel. Pray that the Holy Spirit would anoint the gospel as it is shared during the programs and at dinner.

Thank you for your prayers! We hope too see you down at Marian Anderson (dinner/message at 5:30 each night)! Please especially consider coming for the prayer meeting tomorrow night at 7:30 as we join with other churches to pray for our city!

~ anne, for the whole Xn St team :)

Providence in Action

Sunday's sermon, "Providence in Action," is now posted at the DMC Resources site. And no, as I have had to say a number of times, I did not have you in mind (well, maybe...).
