The Ashura Challenge

I just received an e-mail from Mission Catalyst with this challenge:

"The most important ten days for Shiite Muslims begins December 17. Ashura is a time when Shiites all over the world remember the brutal death of one of their leaders in 680 A.D. They will be meeting together every day and night.

"Let's do the same. As Christ's followers, let's fast and pray for Shiites December 17 - 26. God will hear our collective voice crying out to him for Shiites."

I can't help but think what a meaningful way this is to extend our advent devotions. As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Shiites are engaging in acts of self-flagellation. Let's pray for them to know the free grace offered through Jesus Christ.

Up for the challenge? You can download a ten day prayer guide here and see a video about Ashura here.
